The Scope of Sexual Misconduct on Campus

Recent statistics from RAINN paint a sobering picture of sexual misconduct in college settings. Approximately 13% of all students—both graduate and undergraduate—are raped or sexually assaulted.

To delve into the specifics, 26.4% of female undergraduate students and 6.8% of male students experience rape or sexual assault during their time in college. Among graduate and professional students, 9.7% of females and 2.5% of males report similar experiences.

Increased Risk for College-Aged Adults

College-aged individuals are at an elevated risk for sexual violence, especially when compared to their peers who are not in school.

Male students (18-24) are 78% more likely than non-students in the same age group to experience rape or sexual assault. For female students (18-24), they are 20% less likely than their non-student counterparts to experience these forms of violence, though they still face significant risk.

The Impact of Stalking

In addition to sexual assault, 5.8% of students report having been stalked since entering college.

Stalking is a form of misconduct where an individual repeatedly follows, harasses, or monitors another person, often without their consent, creating a sense of fear and distress.
